Well Aged Poster Design
This is another piece taken from a school project. The task was to take a defunct Canadian band and put together a poster for a reunion concert. I used the bones of the original poster and slapped on some better looking skin. To keep things simple I dropped the band that I had used (Shadowy Men from a Shadowy Planet) and went with a make believe group. Using a couple of suggestions I was able to punch it up with the end result being fairly solid. The devil was in the details. In the first draft the breasts were actually far too perky. Huge rookie mistake. If your going for age you gotta droop them suckers.
The image below is actually just a section of the final poster. I didn't want to dump the whole poster in this update as it is quite large. For the complete piece check out the gallery page.

Tastes as Bad as It Looks
Once again I have fallen behind in posting new pieces on this little old website. To fix this problem I figured I throw up an item that I did for one of my classes a couple of weeks ago. The basic idea was to come up with a nonsensical flavour of potato chips and then create the packaging. Do not even bother asking me that the used flavour tastes like because I really have no idea. I am thinking it is something like swamp water, blood and sweat. All of the photos were just pulled off of google images and the hillbilly is actually a promo image from the movie, Dale and Tucker vs Evil.

Posters in Motion
As I have been getting pretty tied up with work and school I opted to do a couple of quick gifs to beef up the site. I've seen the Big Doll House a couple of times now and it always kicks serious ass. Pam Grier/ Sid Haig/ Jack Hill, the three of them guarantee a wicked ride. As for Lets Kill Uncle, I've never actually seen it but it is a William Castle flick so colour me intrigued. Beside the poster itself offers so many bizarre scenes that I can't really see how it could fail. A quick hop over to IMDB and I found this synopsis: A 12-year-old orphan who has just inherited a fortune is trapped on an island with his uncle, a former British intelligence commander who intends to kill him. A young girl is the boy's only ally against the sarcastic uncle, who uses hypnotism, a pool of sharks, fire, and poisonous mushrooms as weapons. Back in the 60's the really put alot of work into kill 12 year old boys. Death by hypnotism sure is a lame way to go.

The Unrelenting Paparazzi
Groundhog Day was earlier this month making this piece somewhat relevant. I've always been kind of indifferent towards this event as it always struck me as something someone might do once or twice as a joke. Not as something that needed to be a tradition. My only guess it that the first rodent went on a hot streak. Once they banged out a couple of correct predictions it became impossible to ignore them. So I guess the moral of the story is that if done well stupidity can become a news worthy event.

Spring into Action
I quick little project I did a couple of weeks ago. When I originally saw this cover I noticed something wasn't quite right. To the best of my knowledge the saying is Lead with your best foot forward,
. Not the wisdom challenged Jump at a group of people balls first!
. For similiar covers of greater quality check out this really solid website. CoveredBlog.blogspot.com

Boulder Mifflin
As a huge fan of the vintage Flintstones cartoon I wanted to take a shot at aping the art style used on the show. Seeing as the Flintstones was based on an old sitcom (the Honeymooners) it seemed logical to use a modern sitcom as inspiration. I picked up quite a few tips from this little exercise. Most of which had to do with shapes and line work. The piece itself didn't really work until I made the lines thicker and softened the pointed edges. As a side note a now know why Barney never wore a tie. Too many ties is needlessly distracting. Also there is no arguing that Barney was business casual kind of caveman.

Grindhouse GIF'd
I thought I would take a crack at the Animation feature in Photoshop. It's pretty easy to use, but ended up being too time consuming. Making the loop is the trickiest part. The idea came from a blog I saw that did the same sorta thing with old comic covers.

RePulped
Found this great website, RePulped. The idea is to dig thru its archive of old pulp magazine covers, find a decent one and give it your own spin. Not wanting to get bogged down I chose an easy one. The header fonts were hand drawn then punched up in Illustrator. I took a shot at doing all the colour work in Photoshop which is a little out of my element. It could definately use some more time and deeper texture but I figure it was a good test subject. If your even remotely a fan of pulp magazines you need to give a look at RePulped. The old cover archive alone is worth a couple of minutes of your time.
Questionable moral dilemmas, fisticuffs and all kinds of jive looking creatures.
